"Women are like tea bags. You never know how strong they are until they're in hot water" -Elanor Roosevelt
This is a pretty hefty quote for my quiet evening curled up on the couch with a simple cup of tea and a book. It's a profound statement to make for my first real post on this blog. Yet, it is one of my favorite quotes of all time. This is partially due to my tea affinity and partly due to the utter woman power behind it. However, I don't think the quote has to be solely confined to females. This can be the case for any individual. It is crazy how much a challenging life experience can bring about some of the most beautiful results. That is why I am also a huge fan of the lotus flower and what it represents. Its roots are grounded in mud and yet a beautiful flower is able to bloom. I also like the Zen proverb associated with the lotus: "May we exist like a lotus, at home in the muddy water". We cannot always control when poor circumstances occur in our lives, but we can control how we respond to them. We can take each negative piece of life and attempt to find a positive one. The start of the new year is a great opportunity to reflect on how far you have come from any setbacks and how much you were able to achieve in a year. It is also a wonderful chance to remind yourself that you will face obstacles this year, but you can handle them with the right mindset and determination. Don't let muddy waters prevent you from letting your dreams and aspirations bloom. Get as strong as tea when you face hot water.
